In some jurisdictions, the information you want is available online. Typically, taxes are assessed by the county or state in which you live. You can go to the website for either and look for the link that will take you to the real estate tax assessment data bank. You should be able to search by last name, as well as property address.
BTW, most states are very serious about “deadbeat dads” and the payment of back child support money. Tell your friend to contact the local child welfare office for help. Most offices have access to the courts and will help you fight for what is owed to you.

Usually I think the city has to keep track of property ownerships so they can charge civic taxes. I’ve been told by friends that if you buy a place next to a vacant lot you should always see who owns it cause you never know what might be planned to go in there. I’m sure there must be something similar, it’s just a matter of weather you are allowed access to the information or not. Try phoning city hall to see if they might be able to help you out. Technically if they don’t let you access the info cause it’s private she can always subpoena it.

Go the county property appraiser (online) do a property search by last name. Sift through that and see what he owns. if he owns it under a business name, LLC or his wife’s name look under ALL of them.

    Good Luck –
Have your friend get a better attorney =)

If the real estate is under their legal names then it can be searched, but if it is owned by a company name or LLC then you’ll need to know the name of the company to search it. Write back privately with the name, county and city and I’ll search it for you and your friend.

go to yahoo.com and search for ” * county property appraiser” of course replace * with your county name. In most areas you can search by name.
